About the role

Security Benefit Academy is searching for an experienced Associate Teacher with proven experience to join their team. This position will be in their home office in Topeka, Kansas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, supplement, and execute an ongoing program of activities that engage children and provide learning experiences within school age STEM and Fine Arts classrooms.
  • Permit children to transition from vigorous physical activities to quiet activities.
  • Maintain a positive, warm, and encouraging environment that adheres to all health and safety requirements.
  • Work within the entire center, supporting various classrooms as needed.
  • Interact with children respectfully and supportively, fostering a collaborative relationship with parents and other associates.
  • Establish and maintain a daily schedule, prepare, and follow weekly lesson plans.
  • Teach and implement Conscious Discipline in the classroom.
  • Provide children with opportunities for age-appropriate outdoor activities.
  • Monitor, mentor, and guide camp teachers.
  • Supervise and interact with children, individually and in groups.
  • Carry out lesson plans established by Classroom Teacher throughout the entire center.
  • Cover center rooms when the primary teacher is on Parental Leave of Absence (PTO).
  • Float the building, providing PC’s with breaks.
  • Adhere to all licensing regulations, as well as center policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years old.
  • College degree in Early Childhood or related field.
  • 1-3 years’ experience working with children in a licensed child care facility.
  • A respectful and caring mindset toward children.
  • A basic understanding of child growth and development.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude.
  • The ability to be flexible.
  • Light to medium lifting required and the ability to keep up with active young children and work inside and outside all year.
  • The ability to use Microsoft Office to input data and communicate with parents.
  • The ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel children/infants, small objects, controls and to care for the children.
  • The ability to repeatedly reach with hands and arms: stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, squat, climb or crawl.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and in case of an emergency, a 50-pound child.
