About the Role
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire supports 200 staff across 30 Early Childhood and Out of School Time programs. This unique opening is at the Mary Stuart Gile Early Learning Center, a laboratory school on the NHTI campus in Concord. The center serves as a demonstration setting for best practices in early childhood education, with student teachers working alongside staff. We are seeking an energetic, organized, and experienced early childhood educator for a full-time Associate Teacher position.
Responsibilities
- Actively engage with children, assist with cleaning and organizing the classroom, and document child observations.
- Create an environment that facilitates youth development outcomes by responding sensitively to children’s interests and needs, using positive child guidance strategies.
- Plan and implement an emergent curriculum tailored to individual youth needs.
- Establish and maintain program goals to ensure the health and safety of all members, including tracking outcome metrics and evaluating programs for cultural and gender diversity.
- Use child observation notes for curriculum planning and maintain accurate, up-to-date records.
- Account for all children in the assigned group by name and face.
- Oversee implementation of NAEYC standards, GSQ (when applicable), Culture DNA code, and BGCCNNH/CCLU rules and policies.
- Administer first aid and dispense medications according to company policy; communicate incidents to families.
- Maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and upkeep.
- Oversee record-keeping and weekly reporting, including inputting data into the membership/finance system.
- Facilitate professional communication with families, staff, and children.
- Supervise classroom staff, students, and volunteers, providing regular feedback on performance.
- Support volunteers and practicum students by modeling techniques that connect theory to practice.
- May lead planning meetings with the teaching team and promote program visibility through social media, emails, and postings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be an associate teacher qualified before November 6, 2017, with a minimum of 9 credits in related coursework or 1,000 hours of supervised child care experience in a licensed program.
- Knowledge of child growth and development obtained through one of the following:
- Completion of a high school level 2-year career and technical education course in teacher education.
- A 3-credit college course in child or human growth and development.
- Thirty hours of training in child growth and development from an accredited institution or documented life experience (e.g., family child care, foster parenting, teaching, camp counseling, or group leadership).
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, principles, and curriculum development.
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs using creative and artistic teaching strategies.
- Ability to form developmentally appropriate relationships with children and promote positive behavior.
- Patience and ability to manage behavior problems and motivate members.
- Ability to organize and supervise children in a safe environment.
- Strong communication skills with staff, families, and community members.
- Willingness to maintain the Club dress code and adapt to different learning styles.
- Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications per Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements.
- May be required to drive the Club van/short bus; must possess a safe driving record.
- Must assist in cleaning and organizing the Club and maintain confidentiality.
- Willingness to travel occasionally between locations.
All candidates offered a position must pass an FBI fingerprint background check, a State of NH criminal records check, and a First Advantage background check. The State of NH Childcare Licensing Bureau may disqualify candidates based on criminal records. The organization reserves the right to determine employment status even if state clearance is granted.
