About the role
The Lower School Associate Teacher position involves learning from a mentor Lead Teacher while supporting a dynamic, inclusive learning environment for students. This role includes regular teaching responsibilities such as curriculum planning, class preparation, grade reporting, report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences, supervision duties, classroom substitution, advisory, elective teaching, office hours, and participation in class trips.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the broader school community and support program growth.
- Build a strong sense of community for students.
- Promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Engage in professional development and training opportunities.
- Attend required meetings and events, such as Director’s Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, and class overnight trips, as directed by your supervisor.
- Collaborate on curriculum planning.
- Prepare classroom materials.
- Lead group activities and lessons, including small reading and math groups.
- Support curricular and student assessment.
- Maintain a clean, organized learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with the lead teacher.
- Model patience, flexibility, kindness, responsibility, a sense of humor, and a respect for others.
- Participate in the formal communication with parents, such as parent conferences, report writing, and Back-to-School Night.
- Contribute to the school community in faculty meetings, professional development, and events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or education-related field; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Proficient in using technology including Google Suite, Zoom, Seesaw.
- Experience working with lower school-age children in some capacity (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camps).
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English, with outstanding interpersonal skills; additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred.
- An appreciation and desire to work with all types of learners.
- Enthusiasm for pursuing a teaching career and the flexibility necessary to be mentored.
- Initiative and openness to receiving and giving feedback.
- Interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and professionalism to thrive in a collaborative environment.
- An appropriate sense of humor.

- Availability to travel safely and comfortably over a 63-acre campus.
