About the role

The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Associate Software Engineer to join the Interface team. In this role, you will support the implementation, testing, documentation, and support of enterprise-wide integration processes using Cerner-based application layer/technical tools. You will work directly with the UHS Ambulatory Division to design, develop, implement, and support integration solutions between hospital EMRs and ambulatory systems. Key responsibilities include collaborating with customers to understand clinical workflows, gathering HL7 interface specifications, and developing, testing, and implementing Cerner interface solutions.

Responsibilities

  • System Implementation:
    • Communicate with users, vendors, and IS staff to develop/modify system specifications.
    • Support the implementation of applications and prepare appropriate documentation.
    • Perform system testing and documentation for all phases of the application development life cycle.
    • Perform Q/A on application functionality.
    • Monitor, research, and resolve implementation-related Customer Support Center Tickets.
    • Adhere to UHS Project Management standards and ensure strict adherence to work plans, reporting deviations to management.
    • Train users in application use as needed.
    • Design solutions for applications and prepare documentation.
    • Assist in recommending application solutions to meet business needs.
    • Construct and schedule automated processes.
    • Actively contribute to ongoing process improvement.
  • System Maintenance & Support:
    • Monitor, research, and resolve Customer Support Center Tickets.
    • Adhere to UHS Service Level and Change Management Policies.
    • Provide on-call support as scheduled.
    • Establish and maintain regular communications with the user community.
    • Identify potential system problems and propose solutions.
    • Create and maintain effective program documentation.
    • Participate in new development, maintenance, and enhancement of integration processes.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve customer problems of varying complexity, including code defects, application configurations, and networking issues.
    • Set up and configure application settings and permissions.
    • Provide regular updates to customers on ongoing troubleshooting and resolution efforts.
    • Update the knowledge base as issues are discovered and resolved.
  • Administration & Oversight:
    • Maintain Service Excellence principles.
    • Prepare and submit status reports to supervisors as required.
    • Keep management informed of activities, needs, and problems.
    • Adhere to structured programming, analysis, and design techniques.
    • Provide training where applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Understanding of SQL, object-oriented development, RDBMS methodology, ETL, FTP, development life cycle, source control methodologies, and project management.
  • Up to one year of experience (not required but beneficial).
  • Knowledge of current database functionality and development methodologies.
  • Experience with relational databases and system application implementation, enhancement, and support methods.
  • Familiarity with computer systems analysis, programming techniques, and consulting with users to determine software or system functional specifications.
  • Understanding of IS standards, quality methods, and metrics, as well as project management methods.
  • General familiarity with user business practices, concepts, and terminology to support applications.

  • Ability to multi-task while effectively managing time and meeting deadlines.
