Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and controls the comprehensive pharmacy services provided by the inpatient Pharmacy at Wade Park.
  • Oversees the effective utilization of resources and budget to support the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Manages the day-to-day operation of the inpatient pharmacy.
  • Directs and supervises the staff pharmacists and volunteers assigned to the inpatient pharmacy.
  • Captures and coordinates multiple programs in pharmacy service including the Pharmacy Medication Reconciliation Program, Point of Care Program, Sterile Products Program, and Clinic Medication Program.
  • Interviews prospective employees, makes selections, assigns personnel, and serves as a mentor to help employees develop their full potential.
  • Advises medical staff and other health care professionals on formulary drug availability, dosage, common adverse effects, and considerations in therapy.
  • Offers reasonable alternatives choices or course of action when necessary.
  • Plans, organizes, and participates in pharmacist and technician staff development.
  • Develops measures, assesses, and documents the competency and training needs of inpatient pharmacy staff.
  • Routinely monitors performance and quality of services and initiates corrective/improvement measures.
  • Develops and maintains quality assurance monitors for pharmacy services provided for inpatients and reports conclusions, actions, and impact to higher management.

Qualifications

  • Full - current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State - Territory - Commonwealth of the United States (i.e. - Puerto Rico) - or the District of Columbia.
  • Maintains current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full - current - and unrestricted licensure.
  • A pharmacist who has - or has ever had - any license(s) revoked - suspended - denied - restricted - limited - or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - Chapter 3 - section B - paragraph 16.

Benefits

  • The incumbent must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
  • The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion - involving standing for prolonged periods of time - lifting/carrying of pharmaceutical supplies weighing at least 50 lbs. - and bending/stooping.

  • GS-14 Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following knowledge - skills and abilities (KSAs):

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm - weekends and holidays needed.
