Associate Scientist - Separations and Automation Technologies

About the role

In this position as an Associate Scientist, you should possess a thorough understanding of laboratory procedures. You will perform a variety of complex sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of biological matrices. Instrumentation is primarily HPLC and CE. Hamilton Liquid Handlers and Protein Maker affinity purification are also used. You will follow analytical procedures with periodic direct supervision, review and compile results, compare data against acceptance criteria, methodology, protocol, and product specifications, and enter data into databases and reports.

Responsibilities

• Sample preparation involving excellent pipetting skills
• Operate liquid handling systems (Protein Maker, Hamilton) to perform high-throughput sample preparation and purification
• Perform protein analytical assays, including Affinity Chromatography, SEC, CEX, CE-SDS, and icIEF to support rapid process development
• Perform basic data acquisition with clear and concise documentation in electronic lab notebooks
• Coordinate sample submission and data management for incoming samples from BioProcess Development colleagues to support rapid process development
• Provide basic laboratory management operations such as coordinating shipping, ordering consumables, and coordinating instrument maintenance

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic/vocational qualification
• Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0-2 years)
• In some cases, an equivalency consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training, and/or directly related experience may be considered sufficient

Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of multiple applicable techniques such as Hamilton Robotics and Biopharmaceutical Testing
• Experience in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Ability to interpret data by performing trend analysis
• Technical writing skills
• Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Time management and project management skills
• Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team
• Experience using LIMS or Empower is a plus

• Able to work upright and stationary and/or standing for typical working hours
• Able to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds
• Able to work in non-traditional work environments

• May have exposure to potentially hazardous elements, including infectious agents, typically found in healthcare or laboratory environments
• Able to perform successfully under pressure while prioritizing and handling multiple projects or activities
• Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety standards

Pay

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $24.32–$34.00. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
