About the role
The Associate Scientist in the Biofermentation Department conceptualizes, develops, and scales up ferments (active ingredients) with skin benefits for final product formulation.
Responsibilities
- Develop new ferments by conceptualizing and creating active ingredients using fermentation technology and equipment.
- Coordinate the workflow of multiple products simultaneously and write project plans with objectives and milestones.
- Operate independently on assigned technical tasks while aligning with broader team goals.
- Integrate individual results with those of other contributors to drive project progression and meet key milestones.
- Perform routine microbial lab tasks such as plate counts, dilutions, sampling, cleaning glassware, and preparing media.
- Follow culture media recipes to prepare stock solutions, agar, and media.
- Isolate and culture microorganisms, perform routine passaging and inoculation, and identify microorganisms through microscopic examination and chemical analyses.
- Review test results with an immediate supervisor and maintain files and records.
- Work with Biosafety level 2 organisms, requiring uninterrupted focus due to potential risks to the analyst, product, and consumer.
- Work in a high-volume, fast-paced laboratory with agility for change.
- Investigate, evaluate, and implement new laboratory techniques.
- Assist the immediate supervisor with additional functions and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or Chemistry.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
- Strong technical and interpersonal skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs.
