About the role

Avantor is looking for a dedicated Associate Scientist to optimize our Biopharma / R&D organization. This person will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists focused on the development of new products. They will work under supervision, in cross-functional teams, to address analytical challenges by using various analytical methodologies to define product quality, evaluate impurities profile and establish product specifications. The successful applicant will have a broad background in the chemical sciences, hands-on experience, knowledge of wet chemistry/organic chemistry analytical techniques, and be curious to learn and adopt new skills. This is a full-time position onsite at our Bridgewater, NJ location.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on analytical testing needed for product characterization, process optimization and product commercialization under the supervision of a Research Scientist.
  • Interface with project teams to support projects objectives and assist in resolving customer complaints related to product/process performance issues.
  • Support the development, validation and transfer of analytical methods to internal and external QC laboratories for cGMP/Compendia finished goods release testing and stability studies/shelf-life determination.
  • Maintain knowledge of cGMP, Compendia, FDA, ICH and other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Participate in regular project check-in meetings and adjusts plan/activities based on feedback to meet project deadlines.
  • Comply with all safety, environmental and quality policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare reports, and data for publications and oral presentations to advance projects or resolve process/product issues and customer complaints.

Qualifications

  • MSc or BSc in organic/inorganic chemistry, polymer chemistry, chemical engineering and analytical chemistry or relevant scientific discipline.
  • MSc degree with 3+ years of industrial hands-on experience performing analytical method development, product/process development/characterization and technical problem-solving activities preferred.
  • BSc degree with 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience performing analytical method.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge with analytical techniques used in test method validation such as: HPLC/UPLC, GC-FID, GC-MS; Wet chemistry analytical techniques.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Empower, MassLynx, ChemStation, OpenLab and Mass Hunter Software is considered a plus.
  • Strong competency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint, Word and Excel, Minitab.
  • Excellent computer skills; ability to learn new systems (e.g. salesforce.com).

Pay

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is $69,000.00 - $110,975.00. Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
