Duration: 12 months contract. Standard working hours.

About the role

We are seeking an Associate Scientist with strong molecular biology laboratory experience, specifically hands-on expertise in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation. This is the single most important technical qualification. The ideal candidate is consistent, reliable, detail-oriented, and produces high-quality bench work with minimal mistakes. Given the busy and collaborative laboratory environment, effective communication and teamwork are essential.

Candidates with experience supporting RNA sequencing workflows, particularly RNA-seq library preparation, are highly preferred. Experience with single-cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics is also valuable. Histology experience is preferred but more flexible than NGS experience; candidates should have some exposure to working with tissue sections but do not need an extensive pathology background.

Fresh master’s graduates are acceptable. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree should have approximately two years of relevant bench or industry experience. Fresh PhDs may also be considered, though those with significant post-PhD industry experience may be viewed as overqualified.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample and library preparation/QC for NGS sequencing.
  • Perform basic histology (sectioning, staining, imaging) on tissue samples.
  • Perform basic cell culture.
  • Monitor or follow established experimental design and protocols to obtain reproducible and reliable results with limited supervision.
  • Plan, conduct, monitor, analyze, and record experiments, providing interpretation of data.
  • Effectively transfer experimental methods from literature to the lab and make modifications as necessary.
  • Develop and implement new protocols with moderate review.
  • Engage coworkers in scientific discussions and communicate data and interpretation to the work group.
  • Develop systems to ensure quality data and effectively troubleshoot equipment and experimental difficulties.
  • Contribute to internal/external reports, papers, presentations, regulatory documents, invention disclosure submissions, and/or patents.
  • Participate in department-wide support efforts such as safety, recruiting, and committees.
  • Train staff and/or supervise others as needed.
  • Coordinate and organize resources required to complete tasks.
  • Understand when to seek input and when to make independent judgments.

Requirements

  • Experience with NGS library prep and sequencing.
  • Experience with basic histological techniques and RNA in-situ hybridization.
  • Experience with spatial and single-cell transcriptomics.
  • Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience in a biopharmaceutical working environment.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, or
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience, or
  • Associate’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience, or
  • High school diploma/GED and 6 years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • NGS library preparation (must have)
  • Histology (must have)
  • Spatial and single-cell RNA sequencing
