Associate Public Defender (Pre-Admission)

This positions is for law school graduates who have not yet been fully licensed to practice law in New York State. Upon obtaining a New York State license to practice law, the incumbent will be appointed to a position of Assistant Public Defender with the corresponding salary grade.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in the representation of indigent petitioners and respondents in Criminal or Family Courts as assigned by the Public Defender.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a J.D., LL.B. or LL.M. Degree.
• Special Requirement: The incumbent must obtain a license to practice law within one (1) year of the date of permanent appointment.
