About the role

The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG), based at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for an Associate Project Scientist to serve as Deputy Director. The TLG seeks a collaborative, innovative, and detail-oriented scholar-practitioner to contribute to the continued success and advancement of one of the world’s premier digital humanities research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute expertise in Greek literature, textual scholarship, and digital humanities while helping oversee the continued expansion, preservation, and enhancement of the TLG corpus.
  • Oversee scholarly and technical workflows related to the digitization, encoding, quality control, maintenance, and enhancement of Greek textual collections.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures supporting the acquisition, processing, preservation, and dissemination of TLG resources.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of new approaches in digital scholarship and text technologies that support the continued growth and accessibility of the project.
  • Oversee day-to-day project operations, including coordinating priorities, workflows, and timelines; recruiting, training, supervising, and mentoring TLG staff; and supporting effective collaboration among project team members.
  • Collaborate with scholars, libraries, publishers, research organizations, and other institutional partners to advance TLG initiatives and strengthen the project’s impact within the international scholarly community.
  • Contribute to the TLG’s research and scholarly activities through research contributions, publications, conference presentations, collaborative projects, and participation in professional activities related to Greek literature, digital humanities, textual scholarship, and related fields.
  • Help advance the visibility and impact of the TLG within the broader academic community.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Classics, Byzantine Studies, Modern Greek Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of scholarly contributions, including publications or other scholarly activities appropriate to career stage.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Greek textual scholarship, including textual criticism and manuscript studies.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with text encoding standards, digital editing practices, and/or digital humanities methodologies.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and technology-rich environment.
