Associate Project Manager - Power Delivery

About the role

This opportunity provides assistance with managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of assigned power delivery project(s) in accordance with WSP’s core values and the level of project services agreed upon in the contract by WSP and the client(s).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall performance of the assigned project(s) including financial, technical, client satisfaction, quality, safety, and schedule.
  • Ensure adherence to responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle (proposal phase, project startup and planning, project execution, reporting, and project closeout).
  • Develop projects scopes of work and estimates with functional groups.
  • Update documentation within designated systems and processes, including: Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan as necessary.
  • Facilitate project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Assist with monitoring and tracking project metrics, estimated time-to-completion, cash management, and budgeted margin for a project or an assigned portfolio of projects.
  • Coordinate with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontractor requirements in a timely manner.
  • Assist with overseeing subcontractors, and coordinating supplier submissions, invoices, and payments.
  • Participate in problem project reviews, providing input about root cause issues and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers.
  • Complete formal project closeout activities, along with conducting and documenting a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff.
  • Develop sufficient financial acumen to understand project financial data.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience within the power delivery/utility industry, or other construction project management role.
  • Understanding of project delivery process within the power delivery industry and defined background and experience in project management.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
  • Coordination of resources, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others to complete tasks competently and efficiently.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred.
  • Working towards project management certification (e.g., PMP) preferred.
