Associate Project Director, Civil, for COWI in North America
About the role
We are seeking an Associate Project Director to join our global team of specialists. Reporting under the Head of Discipline, your primary task will be to apply sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignment and related fields. You will lead engineering teams, solve complex design challenges, plan projects, optimize designs, produce critical documentation, and oversee quality control.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering teams, mentoring junior staff and coordinating technical work.
- Solve complex design challenges, delivering calculations, drawings, and cost estimates.
- Plan projects (budgets, schedules) and ensure compliance with codes/standards.
- Optimize designs through technical/financial analysis and site inspections.
- Produce critical documentation (specs, reports) and liaise with clients/stakeholders.
- Oversee quality control, from feasibility studies to final deliverables.
- Develop innovative solutions for transportation, energy, and infrastructure projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 15+ years in Civil Design and Project Management, or equivalent education/experience.
- Professional Engineer registration in NY (or ability to obtain within 6 months of joining COWI).
- Knowledge of NYC public agency processes (NYCDDC, NYCDOT, NYCEDC, NYCDEP) and private utility companies.
- Active participation in professional associations; willingness and ability to learn.
- Strong planning, organizational, and multitasking skills, able to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines.
- Clear written/verbal communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiar with CADD analysis software.
- Ability to work with remote teams; willingness to travel.

Pay
Base compensation: $160,800 to $252,000 for New York location only. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, skill set and/or location.
