About UofSC

From the Upstate to the Lowcountry, the University of South Carolina system transforms the lives of South Carolinians through the impact of its eight institutions and 20 locations throughout the state. More than 50,000 students are enrolled at one of eight institutions, including the research campus in Columbia and comprehensive four‑year universities in Aiken, Upstate and Beaufort. Palmetto College campuses in Salkehatchie, Union, Lancaster and Sumter enable students to earn associate or bachelor's degrees through a combination of in‑person, online or blended learning. All system institutions place strong emphasis on service — helping to build healthier, more educated communities in South Carolina and beyond.

Responsibilities

The School of the Earth, Ocean, and Environment (SEOE) in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina's Columbia campus invites applications for a full‑time, nine‑month tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in fish ecology, to begin August 16, 2027. The successful candidate will establish a nationally recognized, externally funded research program in fish ecology, complementing existing strengths in theoretical and applied marine science research across SEOE, the Baruch Institute, and the Department of Biological Sciences. Research interests may include fish biology and ecology; population and community dynamics and modeling; fisheries management and conservation, using theoretical, observational, experimental, or large‑scale data‑driven approaches. The candidate is expected to advise and mentor student researchers, maintain a teaching load of one course per regular semester (1:1) — which may include undergraduate courses for non‑science majors, SEOE majors, and graduate‑level courses — and contribute to faculty committee service within SEOE.
