About the Division of Nephrology

The Division of Nephrology at UTMB is a dynamic academic division dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, and research. The Division is expanding its clinical and research footprint to meet the growing needs of our patients and community.

  • Provides comprehensive care across the full spectrum of kidney diseases, including chronic kidney disease management, dialysis services, and kidney transplantation.
  • Faculty practice across UTMB’s four campuses – Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton Danbury – and collaborate closely with colleagues in internal medicine, critical care, and surgery to deliver integrated, patient-centered care.
  • Offers an Interventional Nephrology Fellowship Program, providing advanced training in dialysis access management, kidney biopsy, and interventional procedures that support comprehensive kidney care.
  • Engaged in translational and clinical research, with growing efforts focused on improving outcomes for patients with chronic kidney disease and transplant recipients. Collaborations extend across departments and research institutes, creating opportunities for meaningful discovery and innovation.

Position Summary

UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Associate Professor of Clinical Practice to serve as the Medical Director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program within the Division of Nephrology. This position emphasizes high-quality clinical care, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to providing outstanding nephrology care and advancing excellence in clinical education and scholarly activity.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient and/or outpatient nephrology care, including management of chronic kidney disease, dialysis, and related conditions.
  • Serve as Medical Director of the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program, with responsibilities including:
    • Oversight of transplant clinical operations and coordination with surgical and multidisciplinary teams.
    • Development and implementation of protocols and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Participation in transplant selection committees and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Engagement in transplant-related research and academic programming.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Nephrology.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
  • Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, or quality improvement projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
