About the role
We are looking for outstanding academics to join our Astronautics Research Group. Your work will strengthen our growing activities in Astronautics, complementing existing strengths and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. We welcome expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Space sustainability
- In-space assembly and manufacturing (ISAM)
- Space mission design
- Guidance, navigation and control
- Propulsion
- GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System)
- Spacecraft dynamics
- Autonomous space systems
- Drones
- Robotics
- Resilient electronics and computing for space
- Space domain awareness
- Satellite communications
- AI and data-driven methods for space applications
You will be part of the recently launched Southampton Space Institute, building on more than 65 years of excellence in space research and education. The role offers scope to create your own opportunities, with support for career progression at every stage.
Responsibilities
- Conduct internationally recognised research in space engineering
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and create opportunities for partnerships with government, industry, and international organisations
- Deliver high-quality teaching in Astronautics, inspiring students in both one-to-one and group settings
- Contribute to the growth of the Astronautics Research Group and the broader Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics
Requirements
- PhD qualification or relevant professional qualification
- Impressive research track-record in a relevant field
- Passion for working in partnership with others
- Enthusiasm for your discipline and strong communication skills to engage students in learning
