About the Role

This is a hands-on, non-supervisory position in Reference Standards Production (RSP). The Associate Production Laboratory Technician will perform production activities involving automated and manual packaging methods. The role contributes to departmental quality initiatives and USP’s culture of safety while supporting the mission to advance scientific rigor and public health standards.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and timely produce USP Reference Standards and Materials according to USP best practices, including understanding package configuration requirements and batch record instructions.
  • Safely handle chemical and biological products in the production environment while proactively supporting contaminate prevention.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety and promote USP’s culture of safety in the production environment.
  • Operate USP production-level machines and instruments, such as powder fillers, labeling equipment, mechanical production liquid fillers, glove boxes, pH meters, autoclaves, mechanical and electronic pipettes, peristaltic pumps, basic laboratory glassware, biological safety cabinets, and capping/crimping machines.
  • Prepare test samples with careful handling of chemicals, accurate sampling, and necessary documentation.
  • Document all sampling activities accurately and promptly using the Oracle ERP system and other relevant software.
  • Manage routine production tasks while remaining alert for discrepancies and variations on the production line.
  • Perform routine mathematical and statistical calculations to detect variances and verify production targets.
  • Assist with production materials inventory, including stocking supplies, dispensing components, and participating in physical inventory activities.
  • Identify technical issues during routine work, develop basic troubleshooting skills, and seek guidance to resolve problems.
  • Build foundational mechanical and technical expertise in the production environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical science. Four years of work experience in a related field may substitute for the degree.
  • Relevant academic training in microbiology or a related life science with exposure to aseptic techniques and handling of biological materials in controlled or sterile environments. One year of work experience in a related field may substitute for academic training.
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) and pass a pulmonary function test to wear an N95 respirator.
  • Willingness to work with bloodborne pathogens; immunization for Hepatitis B or acceptance of the vaccination series from USP is required (declination is permitted while still performing job duties).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry.

Pay

Base Hourly Range: USD $25.73 – $32.59 per hour. Target Annual Bonus: Varies based on role level. Individual compensation packages consider factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and equity.
