About the role

The Clay and Buck Show is one of America’s most-listened-to radio programs, heard across 570+ U.S. radio stations, on SiriusXM, YouTube and other distribution outlets. The same program is released in podcast form for on-demand listening. The Associate Producer plays an important role in the preparation of materials and content research for the daily program, in addition to being a vital part of the program during its daily live broadcast creation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an ongoing knowledge of the audience and their expectations for both information and entertainment while listening/viewing the program.
  • Possess excellent knowledge of current events in U.S. and world politics, news events across the U.S. and world.
  • Determine the most impactful words shared from individuals who are part of news stories or those covering them, including elected politicians, appointed government officials, commentators appearing in television and radio programs, podcasts, and speaking events, and edit them for consideration to be aired within the radio program.
  • Work quickly to find and obtain audio originating from events happening in real-time during the program’s broadcasts and make them available as soon as possible for the hosts' consideration.
  • Transcribe selected words for possible airing and provide proper context, including who said them and where they originated, in summary form for the hosts and other producers to consider.
  • Screen phone calls from listeners to determine the most entertaining calls that enhance the program’s listening experience, supporting the hosts’ ability to explore topics from different perspectives. This requires a discerning ear, focus, and concentration during the three-hour program.
  • Schedule guests for the program, coordinating their appearance with specific times and technical logistics.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of the Executive Producer role to assume those responsibilities 20+ times per year while continuing current duties.
  • Build and maintain a productive, professional relationship with the hosts, incorporating their feedback on audio offerings, guest preferences, listener calls, and other forms of communication into the program.
  • Learn the workflow and responsibilities of the program’s Board Operator role to step in when primary and secondary options are unavailable.
  • Maintain discretion for all conversations and actions within the studio environment and in separate communications before and after the program.
  • Receive and apply feedback from the hosts to help maximize listener relationships and audience size potential.
  • Be open to selective on-air references or speaking opportunities when the hosts deem it appropriate.
  • Recognize that the program is opinion and commentary-based, and while opinions expressed may differ from your own, professionalism requires allowing those opinions to be shared at the hosts' discretion.

This is a full-time position requiring a physical presence in the studio and control room environment daily. It is not a remote working position. The role requires awareness of the broadcast clock and being physically and mentally present during the program’s hours, as well as the necessary preparation and wrap-up time before and after each broadcast.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills; ability to tailor and adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
  • Knowledgeable of the radio market, different station/program styles, and audience demographics.
  • Proficient in using a variety of recording equipment and operating different radio studios.
  • Excellent communication skills, complemented by diplomacy, empathy, and patience.
  • Ability to build rapport and draw information from people.
  • Can coach and develop others.
  • Confidence and tenacity to pursue information, overcome obstacles, and pitch ideas to senior colleagues.
  • Stress tolerance: ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure, and react quickly to changes.
  • Ability to plan, organize, set priorities, multitask, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Full knowledge of the law, rules, and industry regulations around radio production; knows when and how to acquire relevant clearances and licenses.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and social networking platforms.
  • 3+ years’ experience as a Radio Producer and/or Assistant in a smaller market or college station.
  • 4-year college degree, preferably in Radio or Media Production.

Pay

Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data. Hourly pay range: $28.85 - $36.06.

Schedule

Full time, requiring physical presence in the studio during the program’s broadcast hours, as well as preparation and wrap-up time before and after each broadcast.
