Associate Post Masters Mental Health Fellow, Adult

This position is part of the Northern California Mental Health Training Program and follows its regional policies and procedures. It is designed to provide advanced training and additional clinical supervision to Associate Marriage & Family Therapists, Associate Clinical Social Workers, and Associate Professional Clinical Counselors (AMFT/ACSW/APCC) who have prior experience working in a mental health setting. The role meets the requirements for supervised training of associates working toward licensure and adheres to guidelines set forth by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

The Post Masters Fellowship is a one-year, temporary position with benefits, based in outpatient Child and Family, Adult Psychiatry, Chemical Dependency, or other available teams. Primary supervision is provided by licensed mental health professionals.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychotherapy to patients and co-facilitate family and/or group therapy.
• Actively participate in assigned clinical supervision, including:
  • A weekly minimum of two hours of individual supervision.
  • Two hours of didactic training.
  • Two hours of case conference/group supervision.
• Actively participate in a minimum of 32 hours annually of outside community partnership projects.
• Attend workshops and regional seminars as part of the training program.
• Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, and other staff functions.
• Facilitate community outreach and referrals as needed.
• Maintain confidential patient files/records in a timely manner.
• Comply with regional and local policies, procedures, the Code of Ethics, and state laws pertaining to mental health services.
• Perform team-specific duties under the direct supervision of a licensed mental health professional, including but not limited to:
  • Adult Team: Provide assessment and individual/group therapy to adults in a brief therapy model.
  • Child/Family Team: Provide individual, family, and/or group counseling to children, adolescents, and families.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): Provide services to patients needing stabilization in a stepped-down treatment program post-inpatient psychiatric care.
  • Bilingual Spanish Therapy: Provide assessment and individual/group therapy to adults in Spanish for patients requesting services in Spanish.
  • Behavioral Medicine: Provide services to patients with psychological issues related to physical problems or medical conditions.
  • Case Management: Provide psychotherapy to patients with severe and persistent mental illness, facilitating treatment through interaction with psychiatric hospitals, partial hospitalization programs, and crisis facilities.
  • Chronic Pain Management: Teach pain management skills such as pacing, medication management, relaxation techniques, and positive thinking.
  • Eating Disorders: Provide services to adults, children, teens, and families with eating disorder diagnoses.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Social Welfare (clinical track), Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or a related field from an accredited college or university by the program start date.
• One of the following California registrations required at hire:
  • Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)
  • Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW)
  • Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC)
• No applicant with more than 2,000 hours of supervision toward licensure will be accepted into the program in their first training year by the program start date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Theoretical background in cognitive, emotional, and interpersonal functioning, abnormal psychology, and major schools of psychotherapy.
• Experience and/or training in working with Adult, Child/Adolescent, Chemical Dependency, IOP, or Bilingual Clinical Therapy populations.
• Experience and/or training in establishing psychosocial diagnoses and providing standard psychotherapeutic services.
• Experience and/or training in Clinical Case Management or group therapy.

Schedule

• Full-time (40 hours per week).
• Shift: Day (hours may vary).
• Workdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
• Start Date: January 2027.
• Travel: Up to 5% of the time.

Pay

$32 per hour.
