About the role

With limited supervision, supports the formulation of monetary policy for the United States by ensuring the Bank President receives expert analysis on the relevant near-term and long-term issues impacting the economy, including high-level data analysis and policy-related economic and statistical modeling. Responsible for integrating the department’s analysis of economic issues with an appropriate, well-articulated policy position. Provides commentary and recommendations (which may include quantitative and/or analytical analysis) on current economic developments and policy issues for the research director and other senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Studies developments in theory and research methods, is depended on by other staff members for advice on these developments and applies developments as necessary.
  • Develops new methods/applications when appropriate, understands the systemic impact of policies.
  • Conducts research on topics directly connected to the successful conduct of economic policy, suitable for publication in the Bank’s Working Papers, an appropriate field journal, or better.
  • With limited supervision, contributes to monetary policy-related briefings with the Bank President and Director of Research on relevant issues impacting policy.
  • With limited supervision, contributes to the Bank’s economic forecast and associated policy-related projections.
  • With limited supervision, contributes to the public’s understanding of relevant economic issues, including support of executive speeches, public presentations as needed, web-resources, and bank publications.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree; PhD in Economics preferred
  • Five to eight years of experience
  • This position will require fingerprinting for a criminal background check, education and employment verification, along with potential additional screening requirements due to the information accessed while performing the job.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta employees must comply with the Bank’s ethics rules, which generally prohibit employees, their spouses/domestic partners, and minor children from holding financial interests (such as common stock and corporate bonds) issued by financial institutions. This prohibition also applies to investment funds that focus on investing in the financial sector. If you, your spouse/domestic partner, or minor child own such securities, you will generally be asked to divest them if you accept an offer of Bank employment.

This is a full-time, exempt, regular position in the Economics/Research job family. Onsite work is an essential function of this position, and you are required to be onsite according to the schedule set by your management.
