Associate or Full Professor and Department Chair - Educational Leadership & Counseling

About the Role
This is a tenure-track (or tenured) 12-month appointment for an Associate or Full Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling. The position is split evenly between administrative leadership (50%) and teaching (50%). The ideal candidate will teach graduate and doctoral coursework, maintain an active research program, foster faculty scholarship, engage in professional service, and provide collaborative leadership to advance the department’s strategic priorities.
Responsibilities
- Teaching
- Teach graduate and doctoral courses in the department’s programs.
- Deliver instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.
- Provide academic advising and mentor graduate and doctoral students.
- Chair and serve on doctoral dissertation committees.
- Research
- Maintain an active program of scholarship through research, publications, and presentations.
- Pursue external grant funding and foster collaborative grant development.
- Support faculty research and scholarly productivity.
- Service and Administrative Leadership
- Lead departmental planning, budgeting, scheduling, personnel, and operations.
- Oversee accreditation, assessment, and program review activities.
- Conduct faculty and staff evaluations and support faculty development.
- Promote transparent communication, shared governance, and a collegial culture.
- Serve on university committees and represent the department with stakeholders.
- Support student recruitment, retention, and program growth.
Requirements
- Earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, Counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Tenured Associate Professor or Professor status.
- Demonstrated excellence in graduate teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Record of academic leadership, planning, administration, and budget oversight.
- Experience with faculty/staff evaluation processes.
- Record of leading accreditation and program review efforts.
- Evidence of grant writing and/or external funding experience.
- Commitment to addressing the educational needs of all student populations and collaborative leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience supervising personnel and managing budgets.
- Experience with fundraising and external partnerships.
- Experience in online graduate education.
- Experience with curriculum revision and culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Experience teaching doctoral courses and chairing dissertations.
- Experience in K–12 leadership.

This position is security-sensitive and requires export-control authorization prior to employment. Compliance with state and federal laws, as well as Texas A&M University System policies, is required. The ability to perform essential duties, including travel to meetings and university events, is necessary.
A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University–Kingsville will not pay this fee. Additionally, a moratorium on new H-1B petitions issued by the Texas Governor on January 27, 2026, may affect the university’s ability to employ candidates requiring visa sponsorship.
