Responsibilities
- Analyzes, organizes, and prioritizes work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
- Oversees daily operations of the nursing unit and personnel.
- Provides direct patient care as needed per entity standard.
- Assumes 24/7 responsibility when needed.
- Collaborates with Nurse Leaders to formulate and implement short- and long-term goals aligned with organizational priorities; monitors and oversees expectations of nursing care and documentation, ensuring adherence to Standards of Practice.
- Reports issues, concerns, unusual patient or staff occurrences, changes in staffing requirements, patient acuity, or risk-related incidents promptly to leadership.
- Assists in developing roles and responsibilities of direct reports by fostering a culture of talent management and development within the specialty area.
- Works with leaders to identify, develop, and retain high-potential employees through delegation, stretch assignments, supervision, and educational programs.
- Encourages nursing staff to advance through the Professional Development program.
- Monitors productivity, flexes staffing appropriately, and meets or exceeds financial targets.
- Improves employee engagement through collaboration, accountability, one-on-one meetings, and recognition of team performance.
- Participates in and initiates the corrective action process when necessary, ensuring fair and consistent enforcement of policies.
- Demonstrates active support of hospital Process Improvement (PI) philosophies and aligns departmental goals to support PI initiatives.
- Works closely with leaders to develop quality improvement processes, ensuring safe and high-quality patient outcomes; implements Evidence-Based Best Practices and actively participates in policy or process improvement committees.
- Consistently rounds on patients, monitors bedside handoff, and ensures staff responsiveness to call lights.
- Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
- Ensures employees are trained on controls, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (required).
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (required).
- Valid State of Florida RN license (required).
- Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements.
