About the Role

Jackson Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the southeast United States, where UHealth - University of Miami Health System physicians treat children from throughout Florida and the Caribbean. Holtz Children's is known worldwide for its care of critically ill newborns in its neonatal intensive care unit, which is one of the largest in the United States and boasts some of the best medical outcomes. In collaboration with the Miami Transplant Institute, Holtz Children's is one of only three centers in the country that specializes in pediatric multi-organ transplants. It is home to one of only three state-accredited comprehensive children's kidney failure centers and one of the largest pediatric kidney transplant programs in the world. The Children's Heart Center at Holtz Children's is the only comprehensive children's heart program in South Florida. In partnership with the University of Miami, Holtz Children's also trains the most pediatric physicians of any medical center in the southeastern United States.

The Associate Nurse Manager in Labor and Delivery reports directly to the Nurse Manager and oversees daily operations of the assigned shift, ensuring proper care is provided to all patients. This role is accountable for high-quality, safe, and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical and support staff, and appropriate resource and service management related to patient care on the assigned shift. The Associate Nurse Manager ensures services and care comply with organizational policies and procedures, demonstrates fiscal responsibility, and assists the Nurse Manager with strategic operations of the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Vision: Works closely with the Nurse Manager and nursing leadership team to support the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Jackson Health System. Demonstrates a commitment to quality service for patients, physicians, the public, and coworkers.
  • People Leadership: Improves employee engagement through collaboration, holds staff accountable, and acknowledges team members for performance. Leads structured huddles, resolves staff issues with unions, and emphasizes CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise). Mentors staff, supports a Just Culture Model, and participates in policy or process improvement committees.
  • Service Excellence: Uses the nursing process to provide, modify, and coordinate high-standard care and patient/family education. Rounds on patients, monitors bedside handoff, and ensures responsiveness to call lights. Facilitates staff education, including clinical competencies, orientation, and mentoring. Oversees daily operations and assumes 24/7 responsibility in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
  • Organizational Impact: Collaborates with leadership to formulate and implement short- and long-term goals aligned with organizational priorities. Partners with case management and physicians to ensure timely patient discharges. Develops and maintains positive relationships with providers and acts as a resource for staff. Recruits, orients, and evaluates high-potential employees.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyzes healthcare trends and suggests improvements in patient care standards. Supports quality and performance metrics, including core measures, hospital-acquired infections, safety initiatives, and patient experience. Rounds daily to verify compliance with nursing practice standards, including handwashing and patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Operational Excellence: Participates in budgetary planning, monitors monthly budgets, and develops cost management strategies. Completes staffing schedules based on patient acuity and workforce targets. Reviews and approves timecards, manages staffing, and ensures compliance with regulatory and organizational policies. Prepares the unit for regulatory agency requirements and serves as a resource for unit-specific policies and equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (required).
  • Valid Florida RN license (required).
  • 3–5 years of related experience, with management experience strongly preferred.
  • 3–5 years of Labor and Delivery experience (highly preferred).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity (required).
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (required).
  • AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (required).
  • Must meet and maintain all unit-specific and organizational skills, competencies, certifications, and licensures as required by regulatory and nursing standards.

Schedule

Full-Time, Nights (3/3, 12-hour schedule, rotating weekends).
