Smithers Cannabis Testing Services division is seeking applicants for a full-time Associate Microbiologist at our Wareham, MA location. Initial training will be Monday through Friday for approximately two weeks; after training, the regular schedule is Tuesday through Saturday.

About the Role

The Associate Microbiologist supports cannabis testing operations by performing essential laboratory tasks including sample intake, sample preparation, and ancillary laboratory support activities. This role ensures accurate and efficient processing of samples in compliance with state regulations, company SOPs, and quality standards. The Associate Microbiologist works closely with analysts and other team members to maintain workflow efficiency, sample integrity, and a clean, safe laboratory environment. As time allows, the role includes cross-training to conduct sample preparation and extraction for subsequent chemical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and log incoming samples, verifying documentation and labeling accuracy.
  • Prepare samples for analysis following SOPs and safety protocols.
  • Conduct microbiological analysis of cannabis flower, concentrate, and infused products.
  • Conduct routine data entry and basic calculations for non-complex analyses.
  • Maintain accurate chain-of-custody and sample tracking records.
  • Prepare reagents, solutions, and other laboratory materials as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory inventory and restocking supplies.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory workspaces, glassware, and equipment.
  • Support analysts with non-technical tasks to facilitate laboratory workflow.
  • Cross-train on analytical assays as laboratory demand dictates.
  • Follow all applicable state regulations and laboratory SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate records to meet regulatory and quality system requirements.
  • Adhere to safety procedures including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline preferred.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Cannabis industry or regulated industry experience is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory practices and safety protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic data entry.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and SOPs accurately.
  • Must meet the minimum legal age requirement to work with cannabis in the state of operation.
  • Ability to pass a background check in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.

Working Conditions

  • Laboratory setting with exposure to solvents, chemicals, and cannabis-related odors.

  • Full-time schedule; may require occasional evenings or weekends to meet workload demands.

Pay

The hourly rate for this role is $24.00 per hour.
