Associate Medical Director – Med-Psych

The Role Accompany Health is seeking a Med-Psych Associate Medical Director (AMD) to provide clinical leadership across its Standard and Complex Care models. The role combines clinical supervision, direct and consultative patient care, care-model development and operational leadership. The AMD will work with health advocates, physicians, nurses, behavioral health clinicians and pharmacists to deliver coordinated, whole-person care for patients with complex needs. The position is open to full-time or part-time candidates. The part-time option requires approximately 20 hours per week between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM EST. Key Responsibilities Clinical Supervision & Collaborative Care Serve as psychiatric consultant for Psych APCs and Behavioral Health Clinicians within Collaborative Care and Bridge Care models.Provide clinical supervision and participate in Behavioral Health Case Conferences.Provide psychiatric diagnostic evaluations for selected behavioral health referrals.Oversee evidence-based medication management across DSM-5 conditions, including controlled-substance prescribing under the Collaborative Practice Agreement.Partner with Behavioral Health Managers and psychiatric APCs on panel management, follow-up, treatment adjustments and programme graduation.Support urgent behavioral health triage.Ensure timely and accurate documentation and coordinate treatment plans with external PCPs and psychiatrists. High-Risk Behavioral Health Conduct chart reviews and data analysis to assess clinical care plans, diagnosis, coding and treatment.Address root causes of avoidable inpatient and emergency department utilisation and total cost of care.Ensure completion of preventive care and closure of HEDIS quality gaps.Review high-risk patients and recent inpatient/emergency department utilizers to optimise care plans.Ensure Complex Care Plans are created and maintained for highest-needs patients.Review daily escalations involving urgent clinical concerns, diagnoses and quality gaps.Collaborate with external psychiatrists, PCPs, specialists and inpatient teams to maintain aligned care plans. Team Leadership & Development Coach Med-Psych APCs on clinical care and panel management through observation, documentation review and huddles.Partner with APC Managers on hiring, onboarding and ongoing training.Contribute to educational content development.Strengthen relationships and workflows with network providers and community partners. Clinical Care & Delivery Provide direct medical and psychiatric care for patients in Bridge and Advanced Behavioral Health programmes.Deliver indirect care through Behavioral Health Case Conferences and treatment recommendations to APCs.Provide visit coverage for APCs when needed.Ensure appropriate ordering and follow-up of labs and imaging.Maintain timely and accurate documentation across the EMR and internal platforms.Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule, including weekends and holidays. Clinical Design & Innovation Lead or support pilots designed to enhance the care model and guide broader implementation.Contribute to product and technology tool development, including design, testing and implementation.Model organisational values and foster accountability.Participate in quarterly off-site meetings for clinical shared services or operations as needed. Qualifications Required MD or DO in Psychiatry with dual Board Certification in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.Fellowship in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry is a plus.Fellowship, additional training or experience in addiction medicine is a plus.Comfort and experience managing both psychiatric and medical needs.Active medical licence in the state of employment and willingness to obtain additional licences as requested.Experience building and leading multidisciplinary teams and supervising clinical team members.Leadership and/or administrative experience within clinical organisations or innovative care models.Experience with change management and process improvement.Experience using metrics-driven approaches to analyse cost, quality and satisfaction data.Experience using clinical data to support strategy and programme redesign.Comfort working within an electronic medical record.Valid unrestricted driver's licence and access to an insured vehicle for daily use. Preferred 3+ years of experience in an outpatient mental health practice and/or primary care setting.Experience or additional training in Collaborative Care models.Experience supervising Advanced Practice Clinicians.Experience in value-based care and/or managed care.Knowledge of STARS/HEDIS measures, clinical coding and identifying care gaps.
