Associate Medical Director

About the Role

Responsible for providing physician support for all clinical, quality, and utilization management activities of the Health Plan. Handles day-to-day medical administration and provides guidance for the clinical operational aspects of the organization’s programs. Acts as the Health Plan’s Medical Director in their absence. Must be available during non-working hours to accept calls received by El Paso Health’s after-hours answering service.

Responsibilities

• Provide physician support for clinical, quality, and utilization management activities.
• Oversee medical administration and guide clinical operational aspects of programs.
• Serve as acting Medical Director in their absence.
• Respond to after-hours calls from El Paso Health’s answering service.

Skills

• Clear, concise, and persuasive verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
• Ability to positively interact with clinicians, senior management, patients, families, and medical/non-medical professionals.
• Strong analytical skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret complex technical instructions.

Requirements

• Five years of post-graduate clinical experience in direct patient care within Family Practice, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine.
• Two years of experience in a Managed Care Organization preferred.
• Current, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine as an MD or DO in Texas.
• Board certification through the American Board of Medical Specialties or the Advisory Board of Osteopathic Specialists.
• Doctorate of Medicine or Osteopathy required.
