About the role
This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Mechanical Engineer for our San Diego, CA office. Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional mechanical engineering work associated with the design and construction of building systems projects.
- Design HVAC, hydronic, air distribution, and temperature control systems for new and existing facilities.
- Develop engineering calculations, studies, reports, specifications, and construction documents.
- Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, and engineering analysis software to support project delivery.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing designers, and other project stakeholders.
- Coordinate mechanical system designs and participate in site investigations, field assessments, and construction administration activities.
- Aid in equipment selection, load calculations, energy analyses, and system evaluations.
- Support the development of sustainable and energy-efficient building solutions.
- Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and quality control processes.
- Collaborate with clients and project teams to understand project goals and develop solutions that meet technical, operational, and budget requirements.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct while adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 1-3 years of relevant post-education experience in mechanical systems design for buildings.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain.
- Experience designing HVAC and mechanical building systems.
- Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, building systems design, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, and conduct policies.
- Ability to travel occasionally to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
- Experience with healthcare, life sciences, laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other technically complex facilities.
- Familiarity with healthcare and laboratory design standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, FGI, and related industry guidelines.
- Experience designing central utility plants, clean rooms, specialty exhaust systems, or critical environment HVAC systems.
- LEED Accreditation and/or experience with sustainable building design.
- Experience supporting project pursuits, client presentations, and business development efforts.
