About the role

A leading global bank is seeking an experienced attorney to join its U.S. legal team. This position will provide strategic legal counsel on litigation, employment law, regulatory matters, and enterprise risk issues affecting a sophisticated banking and financial services business. The successful candidate will partner with senior legal leadership, human resources professionals, business stakeholders, and outside counsel to manage disputes, advise on employment-related matters, and help mitigate legal and regulatory risk across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee a portfolio of litigation matters, including employment disputes, commercial claims, and financial services-related actions, while developing strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Provide practical legal guidance on a broad range of employment law matters, including workplace investigations, employee accommodations, leave administration, workforce restructuring initiatives, compensation issues, and employee relations concerns.
  • Support internal investigations by coordinating document preservation efforts, information collection, legal review processes, and production of materials when required.
  • Review and respond to subpoenas, information requests, and other legal demands from third parties and governmental entities.
  • Advise business leaders, legal colleagues, and corporate functions on litigation exposure, employment-related risks, and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting employment practices, litigation trends, and financial services operations, and recommend updates to policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate legal and reputational risks while supporting strategic business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external counsel to ensure effective management of disputes, investigations, and employment matters.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, compliance practices, and risk management programs.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar, preferably Texas or New York.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience practicing law with a recognized law firm, financial institution, or corporate legal department.
  • Experience handling civil litigation, employment law matters, internal investigations, or regulatory disputes.
  • Familiarity with legal issues affecting banking, financial services, capital markets, or other regulated industries preferred.
  • Experience managing outside counsel and coordinating litigation strategy.
  • Strong legal drafting, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to advise senior business leaders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
