Associate Lighting Designer
About the role
As a Lighting Designer, you will collaborate with architects, interior designers, clients, and electrical engineers to create complete lighting designs, focusing on front-of-house spaces and building façades. Your role involves attending design meetings, developing lighting designs, recommending and selecting fixtures, and preparing and presenting submittal packages to clients. You will also work closely with internal estimating, engineering, and lighting distribution departments to ensure the final product is fully coordinated and within the client’s budget.
Responsibilities
- Produce accurate, efficient, creative, and coordinated lighting designs using internal and external resources.
- Conduct ongoing analyses of fixture packages to identify opportunities and suggest optimal product and pricing selections.
- Develop and mentor assistant lighting designers.
- Provide excellent customer service by attending client meetings during all project phases, assisting in the selection and approval process while remaining budget-conscious.
- Create and submit thorough fixture submittal packages based on customer specifications using internal resources.
- Act as a liaison between the client/architect and engineering/estimating departments.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience in architectural lighting design, with a concentration in front-of-house hospitality spaces.
- Able to provide an extensive portfolio.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- Extensive knowledge of product lines, pricing of lighting fixtures and lamps, and lighting control systems.
- Proficient with lighting calculations using lighting modeling software (e.g., Visual Pro, AGI 32).
- Ability to work in AutoCAD/Revit is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated general design skills, including sketching, visualization, and graphic communication.
- Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, and computer illustration skills is preferred but not required.
- Understanding of the architectural and engineering design process.
- Ability to multitask in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook.
