Associate Legal Counsel

About the role

The Legal team at AXA XL is seeking an adaptable lawyer to join as Associate Legal Counsel. This role will provide legal and regulatory support to multiple underwriting business units and internal operational areas.

Responsibilities

• Serve as legal and regulatory counsel to underwriters of US commercial lines business units including provision of creative and timely legal advice and guidance on wide range of insurance/reinsurance and corporate issues as well as guidance on business and contractual matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate large variety of commercial contracts including producer, program administrator, confidentiality, third party administrator, vendor, risk consulting, indemnity, etc.
• Aid in product development and existing product support, including advising on coverage terms and conditions, providing guidance on product, rate, and form filings, and responding to insurance department objections.
• Partner with Compliance to monitor legal and regulatory developments, assess business impact, and provide actionable guidance to the business; respond to regulatory inquiries and consumer complaints; advise on non-renewal/cancellation requirements.
• Provide cross-functional legal support to other internal operational areas, including Marketing, Communications, Operations, Finance, Claims, and Risk Consulting.
• Research and analyze wide range of insurance and non-insurance legal and compliance issues.
• Retain and manage outside counsel as necessary.

Qualifications

• Law Degree from an accredited law school is required, and you must be a licensed attorney in at least one State.
• Some in-house and/or law firm experience in commercial property and casualty insurance.
• Knowledgeable in insurance laws and regulations.
• Experience working with business clients.
• Experience with multiple lines of business a plus.
