Responsibilities

  • Foster a fun environment and act as a gracious host to all guests and co-workers.
  • Promote a positive influence in the community and participate in company-sponsored events.
  • Interpret and enforce Ohio State Racing Commission administrative rules.
  • Make decisions to ensure the integrity of pari-mutuel racing/wagering.
  • Share authority with the Presiding Judge over all horses and licensed persons on association grounds during a race meeting for matters related to racing.
  • Review alleged racing violations, issue rulings after hearings, and levy fines/suspensions or recommend further action to the Ohio State Racing Commission.
  • Advise track management, law enforcement, licensees, owners, trainers, and the public on Ohio Code and administrative rules; resolve regulatory disputes.
  • Notify track management of potential compliance issues with proposed changes in internal procedures.
  • Observe live races and replays to ensure no interference occurred; disqualify horses and change the order of finish if warranted.
  • Ensure the lock of each race and declare every race official.
  • Monitor wagering patterns for irregularities.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Judge Accreditation School/Program approved by The Ohio State Racing Commission.
  • Served as a Racing Official for a minimum of 3 years or engaged in racing as a trainer or driver for at least 5 years and observed in the judges' stand for no less than 30 days.
  • 20/20 vision (corrected or uncorrected) and ability to distinguish colors correctly.
  • Extensive knowledge of racing rules, penalties, protocols, animal welfare, duty of care, budget preparation, and policy development.
  • High standards of ethical conduct, honesty, and integrity.
  • High level of initiative, effort, and commitment to completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Responsible behavior and attention to detail.
  • Polite, courteous, and cooperative communication with others.
