Associate Investment Manager, Infrastructure

Job Description and Duties

The CalPERS Investment Office (INVO) is seeking an individual to fill the position of Associate Investment Manager, Infrastructure, who will be principally responsible for sourcing and underwriting new investment opportunities, managing the existing portfolio, and conducting research and strategic planning.

CalPERS is one of the world's largest investors in the private infrastructure market, investing in companies operating in a diverse array of sectors such as telecommunications, power and energy, and transportation among others. This individual will play an important role in helping manage and grow the portfolio.

• Assist the Investment Manager in the day-to-day management of the existing portfolio and in underwriting new investments across commingled funds, co-investments, and separate accounts.
• Develop and maintain fluency and knowledge of the infrastructure market including assigned managers, portfolios, operating and shareholder agreements.
• Participate in strategic planning and portfolio reporting projects, and in making recommendations to Senior Management and Investment Committees.

Desirable Qualifications

• Possession of an advanced degree, such as MBA, or certifications such as CFA, CPA, CAIA or other equivalent financial or accounting certification.
• 5+ years working in infrastructure investing or a closely related field, including an understanding of private markets investment principles and products.
• Experience with financial modeling, valuation, and other due-diligence processes to evaluate investments in private markets.
• Experience in understanding and negotiating legal documentation such as shareholder and limited partnership agreements.
• Experience working collaboratively within a team environment including exercising leadership in mentoring and training junior staff.
