About the role
The position will be part of the General Counsel’s Office team. The Associate General Counsel will assist with the Department’s prevailing wage activities and requirements, data practices activities including privacy and security incident analysis, conduct legal research, writing, and analysis, and provide legal advice to the Department. They will also provide legal expertise to support the Department's compliance with state and federal laws and assist with coordinating the Department’s litigation.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the Department’s prevailing wage activities and requirements.
- Assist with the Department’s data practices activities including privacy and security incident analysis.
- Conduct legal research, writing, and analysis and provide legal advice to the Department.
- Provide the Department with legal expertise to support the Department's compliance with state and federal laws.
- Aid in coordinating the Department’s litigation and collaborating with other staff concerning implementation of legal policies and best practices.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of legal experience as a practicing attorney.
- Experiences must include conducting legal research, writing and analysis, and providing legal advice to senior management and/or executives.
- Experience in one (1) or more areas of laws related to the position: the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act; government grants/contracts/acquisitions; civil litigation; and/or closely related field as determined by the hiring agency.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Minnesota and current with continuing legal education requirements.
- Experience in one (1) or more areas of laws related to the position: the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act; government grants/contracts/acquisitions; civil litigation; and/or closely related field as determined by the hiring agency.
Skills
- Knowledge of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and ability to analyze data, determine classification of data, and provide protection of not public data.
- Experience representing clients in civil litigation.
- Ability to produce written products that are thorough in content, professional in appearance, and understandable to their non-legal audience.
- Experience in the following: prevailing wage law; handling issues related to state and federal laws as they relate to the Department's programs and services; and planning and delivering legal training to non-legal audiences.

Pay
$39.22 - $58.35 / hourly; $81,891 - $121,834 / annually
Schedule
Day Shift, 8:00AM to 4:30PM
