Associate General Counsel, Regulatory Affairs

Provides legal advice to internal departments on a wide range of regulatory and compliance issues, coordinates regulatory interactions and examinations, oversees filings, and leads efforts in artificial intelligence, data governance, privacy, and social media.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates responses to regulatory inquiries and examination requests from state, federal, and international regulators.
  • Partners with key stakeholders across actuarial, finance, operations, insurance, and distribution businesses to identify regulatory issues impacting the company.
  • Prepares and submits regulatory filings, amendments, and confidential communications for domestic and international obligations.
  • Develops interpretive guidance and coordinates regulatory implementations.
  • Supports Government Relations with technical expertise, including model legislative language and position papers.
  • Reviews and updates company policies for compliance with laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Assists in implementing remediation for regulatory findings or internally identified compliance issues.
  • Identifies regulatory trends that may impact the company, including exam findings and enforcement actions.
  • Provides regular reporting on examination and regulatory activity within the company and the marketplace.
  • Researches and analyzes legal issues, preparing risk assessments for senior leadership.
  • Occasional business travel may be required.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Member in good standing of a State Bar Association.
  • 8+ years of prior legal experience.
  • 8+ years of insurance and/or financial securities experience preferred.

  • Solid working knowledge of the life insurance, annuity, broker-dealer, and insurance agency industries.
  • Strong knowledge of state insurance and federal securities laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Familiarity with Lexis for legal research.
