About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Associate General Counsel Product & IP to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space. This role will provide business-aligned guidance focused on governance, compliance, and operational risk management. You will partner with leaders, compliance stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate complex issues into practical recommendations. The position offers the opportunity to strengthen responsible execution, improve decision-making, and support sustainable growth within a technology-driven environment.
Location: San Francisco, CA - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Responsibilities
- Oversee and strategically manage the company's global intellectual property portfolio
- Develop and implement an IP strategy that supports the company's business goals
- Manage invention sessions, patent application processes, and prosecution
- Serve as a subject matter expert on US and global IP laws for business and legal teams
- Integrate IP protection into product and process design collaboratively
- Create innovative legal solutions supporting new AI products and customer experiences
- Assist in the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements related to IP and AI
Qualifications
- At least 8+ years of in-house and law firm experience, managing an IP portfolio and providing product counseling
- Proficient in strategic thinking and complex problem-solving with attention to detail
- Ability to communicate legal risks clearly to non-legal audiences
- Team-oriented with a low-ego approach and readiness to collaborate
- Strong interest in artificial intelligence, generative AI, and machine learning
- Outstanding organizational and communication skills
- JD and a member in good standing with the California bar
