This hybrid role (3 days in-office per week) is based in Chicago, Illinois and reports to the Managing Counsel, Employment Law and Employee Benefits.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice, support, and coordination in employment, labor, and benefits.
- Offer expert advice on all aspects of employment law, including workplace investigations, wage and hour, ADA and accommodations, employee compensation, employee benefits, employment and separation agreements, reductions in force, performance management, employee discipline, traditional labor, and employment-related policies.
- Maintain expertise in new and evolving areas of employment law.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and support implementation of changes necessitated by such developments.
- Oversee outside counsel in detailed or difficult litigation and administrative proceedings.
- Provide legal support to divisional management on specific business issues.
- Advise and guide less experienced attorneys as required.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor Degree and a license to practice law in the state where the legal department is located.
- 8 years’ experience as an attorney with demonstrated understanding or experience in the health care or insurance field.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Negotiation and diplomacy skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-5 years recent experience in health care law and/or insurance law.
- Significant employment law experience, ideally having started at a law firm followed by in-house experience.
- Experience with employment law in multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience working on high-urgency, high-priority matters with executive-level stakeholders that are sensitive in nature; discretion is a must.
- Ability to be a self-starter who thrives without regular oversight.
- Experience managing external legal counsel.
Pay
Compensation range: $146,700.00 - $272,400.00. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
