About the role
This position represents the university and provides legal counsel primarily, but not exclusively, in research and intellectual property matters.
Responsibilities
- Acting as a day-to-day legal advisor, under the direction of the General Counsel, to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and to the directors of the Offices of Sponsored Programs, Technology Transfer, and Research Assurances
- Providing legal guidance to the university’s institutional review board, institutional animal care and use committee, institutional biosafety committee, research misconduct inquiry boards and investigations committees, and the export control analyst
- As needed, providing advice to the International Programs Office and the Office of Purchasing and Contracts
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- J.D. from an ABA-Accredited School of Law
- Current license to practice law in the state of Idaho, or ability to obtain a license within twelve (12) months of hire
Qualifications
- Preferred experience practicing law
- Experience interpreting and advising on federal and state regulations, laws, policies and executive orders
- Experience practicing law, representing higher education institution(s) in matters related to research activities
- Experience practicing law in matters relating to intellectual property
- Experience working in a higher education setting
