Brief Description
The Ladies Professional Golf Association is seeking an Associate General Counsel to support its global media, marketing, content, intellectual property, and technology initiatives.
What You’ll Do
- Support LPGA’s television, streaming, and digital media businesses, including programming, production, distribution, monetization, and emerging content initiatives.
- Negotiate, draft, and manage complex media, broadcast, production, and content licensing agreements, including domestic and international media rights agreements, streaming, OTT, FAST channel, and digital distribution agreements, production services agreements, content acquisition and licensing arrangements, telecast, radio, highlights, archive, and ancillary rights agreements, and advise on content-related legal issues involving rights ownership, chain-of-title, copyright, trademark, music licensing, rights of publicity, and user-generated content.
- Support LPGA’s global marketing and communications teams on advertising, promotions, and branded content initiatives, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial and marketing agreements, including promotional agreements, influencer, creator, and talent agreements, agency, production, and vendor agreements, branded content and content production agreements, support rights clearance, and advise on IP use involving music, footage, photography trademarks, talent and third party content across campaigns and platforms, advise on advertising and promotional requirements, including sweepstakes, contests, endorsements, testimonials, consumer disclosures, native advertising, and social media campaigns, and advise on compliance with applicable privacy, data protection, and marketing communications laws, including CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and related email, SMS/text messaging, and digital marketing regulations, and support management and enforcement of LPGA intellectual property assets, including trademarks, copyrights, domain names, and related licensing programs.
- Provide legal support for digital platforms, products, fan engagement platforms, content monetization initiatives, social commerce, payment technologies, and emerging technologies, negotiate and advise on a variety of technology related agreements, including platform integration, ad tech and marketing technology data licensing, SaaS, cloud services, artificial intelligence and vendor agreements.
- Advising internal stakeholders on applicable laws and regulations relating to advertising, media, consumer protection, privacy, and digital content distribution, developing and maintaining internal legal policies, templates, standards, and best practices to support operational efficiency and risk management, collaborating cross-functionally with media, partnerships, marketing, communications, technology, finance, and operations teams on strategic initiatives and day-to-day legal matters, managing outside counsel, and assisting with dispute resolution and pre-litigation matters as needed.
Who You Are
- Minimum of 7 years of legal experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department, with substantial experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements in media, sports, entertainment, technology, marketing, or digital content industries.
- Experience supporting television, streaming, digital media, OTT, FAST channel, or sports/media distribution businesses strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of consumer protection, advertising, and privacy laws and regulations, including FTC guidelines, CAN-SPAM, COPPA, TCPA, GDPR, and applicable state, federal and global data privacy laws.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing.
- Exceptional drafting, negotiation, analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-priority projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong leadership, business judgment and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice and effectively balance legal risk with business objectives.
- Prioritized ability to collaborate closely with senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders, build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization, and support and mentor colleagues.
