About the role
The Associate General Counsel will report directly to ICANN’s Deputy General Counsel, performing organization-wide legal duties in areas including litigation and alternative dispute resolution, internal legal services and advice, and support for the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
- Develop litigation and alternative dispute resolution strategy and manage all related activities, including oversight of outside counsel.
- Provide legal support and advice to management and internal clients, including subject matter expertise to Board committees and the Board, attending meetings, and making presentations as needed.
- Manage ICANN’s internal and external litigation activities and independent review process, including discovery, document production, and motion practice.
- Oversee compliance with economic sanctions programs.
- Review and make recommendations to the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and senior management about litigation and dispute-related issues.
- Ensure internal departments worldwide comply with legal requirements.
- Provide advice and support to assigned internal clients to proactively identify risks and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Manage general corporate legal matters, support ICANN’s legal compliance requirements, and provide guidance for new and ongoing organizational initiatives.
- Interpret regulations and ensure ICANN’s activities comply with laws and regulations.
- Support ICANN’s mission of ensuring the security, stability, and interoperability of the Internet.
- Supervise and assign work to team members to meet established deadlines and review their work.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- Minimum 12 years of increasingly responsible experience in related legal fields.
- License to practice law in California; active license and membership in good standing with the appropriate bar or legal authority.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); fluency in any of the other official United Nations languages is a plus.
Skills
- Proficiency using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Professional.
- Ability to prepare detailed reports, presentations, and speeches for internal and external audiences.
- Strong business acumen with an understanding of the balance between risk and benefit.
- Ability to advise and direct subordinates in their work and professional development.
- Ability to work independently and adapt quickly in an evolving environment.
- Curiosity and passion for the development of the Internet and domain name system.
- Global perspective and awareness of cultural diversity.
- Ability to read and write in a foreign language at a level sufficient to conduct job-related business transactions (preferred).
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a normal office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise (or remotely in a home office environment).
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and use of hands to reach, handle, or feel.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds.
Pay
Targeted base salary range: $172,000 – $245,000. The final compensation package considers factors such as candidate location, work experience, knowledge, skills, and other compensable factors.
