The Role
The Associate Formulations Scientist will be responsible for preparing prototype formulations and conducting various tests to assess their properties and stability.
Responsibilities
- Prepare prototype formulations for exploratory studies in in-vitro and in-vivo models
- Develop oral, topical, and intravenous (sterile) dosage forms for feasibility studies and small scale manufacturing operations
- Measure key active compound and formulation properties
- Assess the chemical and physical stability of prototype formulations using in-vitro tests
- Identify potential stability and performance issues with prototype formulations
- Develop protocols for preparation of formulations at preclinical and clinical study sites
Requirements
- Experience with drug formulation and pre-formulation techniques, and an understanding of drug candidate properties
- Experience with amorphous solid dispersions (spray dried dispersions or hot melt extrusion) and modified release tablet design
- Basic chemistry (wet or solid state) laboratory experience
- Experience working with laboratory equipment, mechanically inclined
- Experience with more advanced characterization techniques such as Raman, thermal analysis, and dissolution
- Ability to follow procedures reliably and consistently
- Strong computer and organizational skills
- Adept in Microsoft Office
- Mathematical or Mechanistic Modeling
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivated, adaptable, and a positive attitude
- Ability to learn new techniques, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
