About the role

Nearwater Capital is seeking an Associate to join our finance team as we bring an outsourced reporting function in-house and build out financial reporting, consolidation, and the underlying systems that support it. You will support day-to-day accounting and management reporting while also getting hands-on exposure to systems implementation, in a dynamic, deal-driven environment with a complex and evolving portfolio of structured finance transactions.

This is a strong opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to build broad reporting, consolidation, and systems experience inside a growing firm, with direct exposure to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for the firm, including entity-level and consolidated reporting across legal entities, intercompany eliminations, and multi-currency reporting.
  • Help bring in-house work currently performed by a third party, building process and controls alongside more senior team members.
  • Assist in the preparation of external financial statements and internal management reporting in accordance with US GAAP (IFRS exposure a plus).
  • Help produce and maintain KPI/KRI reporting used by the business and risk teams, including spreads, transaction costs, margin, new counterparty costs, fail charges, and liquidity metrics.
  • Support management company accounting and reporting.
  • Respond to ad-hoc reporting requests from senior leadership and other stakeholders, slicing data in different ways to support business development and decision-making.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of systems that underpin reporting and consolidation, whether a dedicated consolidation/reporting platform (e.g., OneStream, Workiva, SAP BPC) or a general ledger/ERP system (e.g., NetSuite).
  • Assist with maintaining the Global Chart of Accounts framework and supporting change control standards across entities.
  • Support technical accounting analysis on complex transactions (e.g., business combinations, goodwill impairment, investment structures) under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Help build KPI dashboards and executive financial packs using available reporting technology.
  • Coordinate with FP&A, tax, legal, and external auditors on reporting deliverables and timelines.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in financial reporting, accounting, or public accounting.
  • Background in banking, broker-dealer, asset management/private equity, or other financial services strongly preferred.
  • A path through public accounting/audit (Big 4 or similar), particularly with investment management or financial services clients, is a strong and valued route into this role.
  • Comfort with, or strong interest in learning, complex products such as derivatives. Structured finance exposure is a plus but not required.
  • Some exposure to global entities, multiple jurisdictions, or foreign currency reporting is a plus; experience in our specific locations (New York, Dublin) is a plus.
  • Exposure to consolidation processes across entities; does not need to have owned it end-to-end.
  • Interest in or early exposure to systems implementation (e.g., OneStream, Workiva, SAP BPC, NetSuite) is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Strong US GAAP technical foundation; IFRS exposure is a plus.
  • CPA or actively pursuing CPA preferred.

Skills

  • Detail-oriented and reliable, with strong ownership over the accuracy and quality of your own work.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and enjoy learning how a growing organization builds its processes and controls from the ground up.
  • Communicate clearly and are comfortable interacting with more senior stakeholders, including finance leadership and external partners.
  • Growth mindset: willing to make and learn from mistakes, and comfortable with speed over perfection where appropriate.

Benefits

  • A front-row seat to building a function from scratch, including hands-on exposure to bringing a third-party process fully in-house.
  • Direct exposure to complex, structured finance transactions as part of day-to-day work, not simplified or abstracted.
  • Regular, direct access to senior leadership and external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisors, and lenders.
  • Hands-on involvement in reporting and consolidation systems as they're evaluated and implemented.
  • A fast-paced, high-ownership environment where accuracy and impact are valued, and early ownership is genuinely expected.
