Job Overview
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is seeking an Associate Software Engineer for a full-time position in Groton, CT. The ideal candidate should have a BS or MS degree in a related field and proficiency in C/C++ or Python development. Responsibilities include designing and building maritime sensing, detection, tracking, and autonomy software.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement detection, classification, and localization algorithms
- Create command and control interfaces, simulations, and visualizations for acoustic sensors
- Design and implement acoustic, signal processing, and autonomy algorithms
Required Skills and Attributes
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or applied math/physics
- Proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB, and Python
- Experience with Linux platforms
- Experience with modern software engineering tools (git, CI, Docker)
- Understanding of software design and user experience (UX) principles
- Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- 2+ years of relevant professional experience
- An interest or background in maritime communications, networking, autonomous systems, or signal processing
- Familiarity with IP/TCP/UDP networking and RS232/RS422 communications
- Experience with MySQL (e.g., MariaDB) databases
- Experience with MATLAB and ability to convert MATLAB code to C/C++ and/or Python
- Working knowledge of software middleware, such as Protocol Buffers
- Working knowledge of core signal processing concepts (sampling, filtering, transforms)
