Responsibilities

• Conduct research and development activities related to the implementation of new optical metrology related test methods.
• Perform routine troubleshooting.
• Recommend quality/compliance improvements on existing instruments and methods.
• Perform assigned scientific experiments and procedures under supervision.
• Provide solutions to problems of limited scope of complexity and exercise judgment within generally defined policies and procedures to determine appropriate action.
• Assist in writing and updating protocols, test methods, and standard operating procedures.
• Collect, analyze, and compile data then summarize data for interpretation by supervisor.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment; operate hands-on instruments considered standard in his/her area of expertise.
• Perform analysis of optical and geometric properties of prototype and clinical supply lenses.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Optics, Physics, or Engineering.
• Prior engineering experience in a regulated industry with optical medical devices preferred.
• Statistical design and analysis of experiments education.
• Basic understanding and application of principles, concepts, and practices of engineering methods.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Conditions & Physical Demands

• Laser safety clearance.
• Ability to sit/stand in front of instruments; ability to make measurements throughout the day.
• Light lifting (up to 23 lbs).
• Ability to communicate clearly to various internal customers with testing requests in the lab.
• Visual acuity – ability to see lenses in liquid.

Work location: Jacksonville, FL. Travel: <10%.
