Associate Engineer A Gas Engineering

About the role

Under limited supervision of the Section Manager, performs engineering work, analysis, design, and management of engineering projects in transmission, distribution, regulation and system control, and corrosion control. Makes independent decisions and recommendations on engineering problems, procedural issues, and design standards. Develops expertise in several aspects of gas engineering and collaborates with other Engineering staff and departments to achieve company goals. Represents the Company at industry meetings.

Responsibilities

• Identifies necessary projects and prepares cost justification studies and cost-benefit analyses.
• Prepares and submits projects for the capital budget.
• Prepares designs, drawings, estimates, specifications, and reports associated with Gas Engineering projects, ensuring conformance with codes, regulations, and Department design standards.
• Performs and coordinates gas distribution and transmission planning using pressure/flow system modeling studies.
• Performs complex engineering studies, researches complex engineering problems, and prepares reports.
• Participates in the planning phases of municipal projects to negotiate favorable modifications and minimize impact to existing gas facilities.
• Directs major projects (e.g., capital, maintenance, R&D) and manages supporting staff, including scheduling, inspection, cost control, and prioritization.
• Performs vendor and contractor qualification comparisons and analyzes bids for compliance with specifications.
• Acts as a liaison with consultants, contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers regarding proposals, work conduct, and modifications.
• Investigates gas incidents, performs root cause analysis, and prepares reports to prevent future occurrences.
• Prepares standards and work procedures for gas transmission and distribution work.
• Stays informed about new technology and developments in the industry; evaluates and recommends new materials and equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years of work experience, including at least 1 year of engineering work experience.
• Proficiency in promoting and utilizing teamwork to achieve goals.
• Ability to apply individual judgment, initiative, and decision-making across a broad range of assignments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, support staff, and management.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
• Registered Gas Distribution Professional Certificate preferred.

Additional Information

The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency role and must be available to work non-business hours during emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able and willing to travel within the Company service territory as needed.
