Associate | Energy Engineer / Project Manager

We are looking for a senior specialist to join our Energy Team in the US, building on our strong track record such as New York City’s Roadmap to 80x50, GeoMicroDistricts work, and Oakland Energy Master Plan to support our clients in navigating the complexities of a rapidly transforming energy sector. While the role is focused primarily in growing our geothermal and thermal energy networks offerings, you will also support the work winning and delivery of projects, including:
- Energy and infrastructure master plans
- City, state, and regional climate action plans
- Techo-economic feasibility studies
- Renewable energy and energy storage systems
Your key duties
Manage internal project teams and external subconsultants, to deliver quality energy advisory project outcomes for a range of client types – including direct-to-client opportunities
Work with stakeholders and clients to understand key energy challenges through meetings and workshops – including resilience and economic viability – and identify resources across the business to meet them
Utilize knowledge and experience in energy system modeling, geothermal, and/or central plant design to guide delivery of innovative, high quality project deliverables
Produce reports, presentations, models, and drawings to an excellent standard as requested by clients
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff
Leverage network of contacts within organizations who commission energy planning work such as various tiers of government, campus/private network operators, real estate developers and utilities to foster strong client relationships and work winning opportunities
Support Buro Happold’s marketing team and senior leadership in development and delivery of bid proposals and strategic business pursuits
Your skills and experience
- Advanced degree or research background in energy systems or similar preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree level, or equivalent, in with emphasis on physical science or engineering background
- 8+ years’ experience working on large scale, multi-disciplinary projects in urban development and/or energy infrastructure
- Professional Engineers (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification or similar
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary staff at the project and organization level
- Demonstrated ability to engage with clients, develop relationships, and execute successful, innovative project deliverables to clients and relevant stakeholders
- Experience of energy system design such as geothermal, district heating and cooling, power generation, CHP and renewables
- Understanding of the market, supply chain, revenue models, and costs associated with energy systems including geothermal, power/smart grid, district energy, energy storage and renewables in the US
- Strong understanding of energy policy within North America and experience developing evidence-based policy
- Effective written and oral communications and presentation skills and ability to communicate complex engineering and planning concepts (i.e. decarbonization, resilience) effectively to diverse audiences including municipal government, private investors, and community groups
What we offer
- Salary range of $115,000 to $150,000. This will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience
