Purpose: The Associate Director, Strategy and Operations, will play a critical role in functional leadership and operational support to ensure the successful execution of initiatives that enhance efficiency and drive scientific innovation of the Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) Organization. This individual will partner closely with the Director of Strategy & Operations to understand Therapeutics Discovery scientific strategy and drive continuous improvements and change management within DTMP. You Will Be Responsible For Strong working knowledge of R&D overall processes and laboratory workWorking knowledge of how a new molecular entity is created with emphasis on science neededManage Functional Resources to Target (Operational Costs, Capex, Headcount)Optimize functional efficiencies across CROs, contractors, and lab supplies through contracting oversight & procurement partnershipManage DTMP partnerships and collaborations in conjunction with Alliance ManagementDrive strategic and process operational improvement initiatives on behalf of DTMPContribute DTMP inputs to Therapeutics Discovery financial planning and forecasting cyclesFunctional Leadership support including LT/ELT Meeting Facilitation & CommunicationsSupport 2026 Functional G&O development and progress trackingMaintain Functional 3 year StrategiesSupport Functional Recruitment & OnboardingSupport DTMP LT with talent processes (advancements, talent talks, year-end performance) Leadership Characteristics Motivates, inspires and influences others across the organization and enterprise to achieve resultsModels Courage & Care behaviors centered on Our Credo ValuesDemonstrates strong Execute and Optimize leadership behaviors to drive efficiency and strategic change managementEstablishes and maintains strong relationships with key external and internal stakeholders to attain business resultsPartners with DTMP Leadership Team to drive cross functional initiatives Qualifications / Requirements Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s Degree is preferred in a scientific degree such as biology, protein sciences, or chemistry or equivalent masters. Skills/Experience Minimum of 10 years of experience in both laboratory sciences and operations in pharma R&DKnowledge of Discovery sciences and businessScientific background in protein science, biology or chemistry preferredStrong organizational skills related to data managementDemonstrated success at developing highly collaborative and effective relationships in complex, highly matrixed organizationAbility to present and communicate to stakeholdersIndividual must have demonstrated experience and success with external partnershipsThis candidate would have change management experienceExperience in assessing technology, external environment & R&D process requirements to successfully drive operational productivity, strategy optimization, process improvements and efficienciesThis person will have experience with Program, Project and Financial ManagementAbility to translate data into information and strategies into executable action plansThis role requires 10-30% domestic and international travel as needed.
