About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Accounting, the Associate Director/Director, SEC Reporting & SOX will lead SEC reporting, technical accounting, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance. This highly hands-on and detail-oriented leadership role requires strategic operation in a fast-paced biotech startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Company’s SEC reporting process, including preparation and timely filing of Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and other required filings, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Investor Relations, Business Development, R&D, and other departments to ensure accuracy and consistency of external reporting disclosures.
  • Design, implement, and continuously evolve the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance framework, including risk assessment, control design, documentation, testing, remediation, and optimization as the company scales.
  • Develop and lead SOX compliance processes to ensure internal controls are adequate and operate effectively.
  • Serve as U.S. GAAP technical expert, leading accounting research and preparation of technical accounting memos.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate and determine the accounting impact of complex transactions and ensure proper accounting at month-end close.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors on quarterly reviews, annual audits, and SOX compliance to ensure timely and successful completion.
  • Partner with Legal and HR on equity administration and accounting for share-based compensation.
  • Support the preparation of the annual proxy.
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 10+ years of progressive accounting experience within the life sciences industry or an equivalent combination of academic and industry experience.
  • CPA with public accounting experience required; Big 4 CPA firm experience preferred.
  • Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, and SOX compliance at a publicly traded company or public accounting firm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to operate independently and accomplish objectives with minimal direction.
  • Highly detail-oriented, with the ability to balance deadlines and quality in a fast-paced growth environment.
  • Experience with SEC filing platforms and equity compensation systems; stock administration experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset.

Work Environment

  • On-site requirement (Monday through Thursday).
  • Fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with frequently changing priorities and multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Periodic/regular travel, including up to 5% of work time, which may include overnight travel.
  • Constant or continuous use of a computer keyboard, monitor, and mouse to perform tasks.
  • Constant or frequent sitting, standing, or walking; may lift and/or move objects of various weights.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $170,000 to $180,000 per year for an Associate Director and $208,000 to $215,000 per year for a Director. The final pay offered will depend on factors such as type and years of experience, education, skills, and certifications.
