About the role

You will maintain alignment with corporate process safety goals, assist support and field personnel with the interpretation of and compliance with process safety requirements, and champion a strong process safety culture. You will be acutely aware of the highest risk issues and relentlessly drive resolution with urgency and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize written presentations, documentation, and reports pertaining to process safety activities; deliver key presentations to senior management.
• Track and report process safety leading and lagging indicators, key metrics, action plans, and priority recommendations; assist with identifying resources to support key activities.
• Identify process safety improvement opportunities through interaction with stakeholders; recommend and justify new tools and work process improvements.
• Ensure process safety-related Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), engineering standards, and guidelines are developed, reviewed, and updated as needed.
• Ensure process safety deliverables are integral to project execution and management of change; provide leadership to ensure quality and timing of project deliverables.
• Ensure appropriate management systems and information management tools are used to effectively manage process safety information.
• Ensure adequate Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment procedures (including PHA, LOPA, Facility Siting, Human Factors) are in place and followed; ensure trained and qualified PHA facilitators and team members participate in PHAs.
• Lead all key process safety incident investigations and Root Cause Analyses (RCA); promote a culture of transparency and share key learnings.
• Participate in key Pre-Startup Safety and Operational Readiness Reviews (PSSRs).
• Ensure adequate Management of Change (MOC) procedures are in place and followed.
• Manage the LG&E PSM/RMP Assessment program; lead or participate in key process safety assessments.
• Ensure process safety training is developed and maintained; deliver training when appropriate.
• Analyze and understand process safety incidents within the industry to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Drive accountability at all organizational levels for process safety performance and risk reduction.
• Stay up to date with local, state, and federal regulations applicable to facilities.
• Promote a strong process safety culture where attitudes and behaviors support safer process operations.
• Lead and participate in cross-functional teams.
• Manage multiple priorities, drive issues to completion, and obtain results.
• Build and maintain productive relationships across departmental lines in a matrix organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (preferably from an ABET-accredited science, engineering, or technology program); comparable experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience working with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP covered processes.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
• Experience with incident investigations and the ability to facilitate Root Cause Analyses.
• Demonstrated understanding of:
  • Risk-Based Process Safety
  • PHA requirements and methodologies, Facility Siting, and Human Factors
  • Process Safety Information (PSI) and its use and maintenance in operating facilities
  • Relief systems and their life cycle critical to process safety
  • Critical Safety Systems (CSS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Levels (SIL), and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
  • Management of Change (MOC) and its impact on process safety
  • Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) and their conduct
  • Operating Procedures required in process operations
  • Mechanical Integrity and its role in supporting process safety
  • OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) regulation
  • Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) related to process safety
  • EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP)
  • Dispersion, fire, and explosion modeling
• Experience managing a team.
• Detail-oriented with an ability and desire to persevere.
• Maintain a positive attitude and adapt quickly to changing situations.
• Proficient in Microsoft O365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
• Proficient use of PHA Works software.
• Experience with Six Sigma techniques.
• Ability to travel to supported facilities and offices throughout North America (average 35% travel, up to 50% or more at times).

Pay

Pay Range: $125,475–$184,030
