Associate Director, Platform Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Direct the platform engineering team in designing, building, and maintaining scalable, secure, and highly available enterprise systems
  • Identify integration gaps across critical enterprise software ecosystems, including GRC and security tools, and related platforms; drive continuous improvement of tool interoperability, workflow automation, data exchange, and operational effectiveness
  • Drive the implementation and secure governance of AI artifacts, such as models and AI agent skills, and key automation technologies within the platform to improve technical security capabilities and streamline workflows
  • Embed security-by-design principles across all platform layers; validate that all engineering activities rigorously comply with KPMG's security frameworks, monitoring for vulnerabilities, and actively mitigating risks
  • Oversee a portfolio of complex, cross-functional engineering projects from conception through deployment, maintaining strict adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards
  • Mentor, manage, and scale a high-performing team of engineers and architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence and strategic alignment

Qualifications

  • Minimum eight years of recent, progressive experience in platform engineering, systems architecture, or enterprise IT, including at least three years in a leadership or management capacity
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, engineering is preferred; minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required; relevant industry certifications (for example, ISC2, ISACA, GIAC) are preferred
  • Proven record of deploying and managing enterprise-grade software and governance tools and deep technical knowledge of cybersecurity controls, threat mitigation strategies, and secure platform architecture
  • Demonstrated capability in integrating AI solutions and managing large-scale technical deployments
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for executive leadership
  • Strong background in defining engineering job functions, acquiring technical talent, and scaling specialized teams with familiarity with modern DevOps/DevSecOps practices, cloud-native infrastructure, and automated compliance tracking

California Salary Range: $153,000 - $297,000
