About the role

The Oregon State Hospital, a Joint Commission and CMS certified public psychiatric hospital, provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for mentally and emotionally ill adult and geriatric populations committed by the Oregon courts. The hospital operates two campuses—Salem and Junction City—serving approximately 700 patients with a workforce of 3,000.

The Treatment Services Department uses a treatment-mall model to deliver individualized care. This position provides clinical and day-to-day supervision to approximately 14 licensed and nationally credentialed creative-arts and recreation therapists (Art, Dance/Movement, Music, and Recreation) across both campuses. The role also supervises provisional clinicians working toward full licensure or certification and collaborates with program managers overseeing Occupational Therapy, vocational and education services, spiritual services, and treatment-mall administrators.

As a clinical supervisor, the incumbent must hold one of the following credentials: ATR-BC, MT-BC, CTRS, or BC-DMT, along with the required Oregon state license. The position includes hands-on clinical engagement, evaluation of practices, and occasional work in environments where patients may be dysregulated, following established safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and administrative supervision to licensed and provisional Art, Dance/Movement, Music, and Recreation Therapists.
• Oversee services for over 650 patients across Salem and Junction City campuses.
• Collaborate with clinical program managers in related disciplines (Occupational Therapy, vocational/education services, spiritual services, treatment-mall administration).
• Engage in direct clinical treatment and evaluate therapeutic practices.
• Participate in clinical environments with established safety protocols, including rare instances of patient dysregulation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy or Recreation Therapy or Master’s degree in Art Therapy or Dance/Movement Therapy.
• Current Oregon license in Art or Music Therapy (out-of-state candidates may obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Registration and certification by one of the following:
  • ATCB (Art Therapy Credentials Board),
  • ADTA (American Dance Therapy Association),
  • CBMT (Certification Board for Music Therapists), or
  • NCTRC (National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification).
• Current Oregon Driver license (out-of-state candidates may obtain within 6 months of hire).

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience supervising clinical staff outside your own licensure.
• Experience creating operational efficiencies within a continuum-of-care delivery system.
• Prior experience providing direct patient care while supervising a clinical team.
• Responsibility for maintaining compliance standards in a healthcare setting.
• Advanced clinical experience in a trauma-care setting.

Pay

$6,834.00–$10,569.00 per month. The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying range; if the successful candidate qualifies for PERS, the range increases by 6.95%.
